CBC
The complete blood count (CBC) is a test that evaluates the cells that circulate in the blood. Blood consists of three types of cells suspended in a fluid called plasma: white blood cells (WBCs), red blood cells (RBCs), and platelets (PLTs). This test is done to determine the general health status; to screen for, diagnose, or monitor any one of a variety of diseases and conditions that affect blood cells.
ESR
Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR or sed rate) is a test that indirectly measures the degree of inflammation present in the body. The test actually measures the rate of fall (sedimentation) of erythrocytes (red blood cells) in a sample of blood that has been placed into a tall, thin, vertical tube. Results are reported as the millimeters of clear fluid (plasma) that are present at the top portion of the tube after one hour.
Malarial Parasites (Slide Method)
Diagnosis of malaria involves performing blood smears. For a blood smear, a drop of blood is applied to and spread onto a glass slide. It is then treated with a special stain and examined under a microscope for the morphology of infected blood cells and the parasite.
SGPT
Serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) is an enzyme found mostly in the cells of the liver and kidney. Much smaller amounts of it are also found in the heart and muscles. This test measures the level of SGPT in the blood to screen for liver damage and/or to help diagnose liver disease
Urine Routine
A urine test is used to assess bladder or kidney infections, diabetes, dehydration and preeclampsia by screening for high levels of sugars, proteins, ketones and bacteria. As hypertension affects the overall health of an individual, this test is done to access the health of kidneys and other organs of the body.
Widal Test
The Widal test is one method that may be used to help make a presumptive diagnosis of enteric fever, also known as typhoid fever. Although the test is no longer commonly performed in the United States or other developed countries, it is still in use in many emerging nations where enteric fever is endemic and limited resources require the use of rapid, affordable testing alternatives. While the method is easy to perform, concerns remain about the reliability of the Widal test. It is not specific for typhoid fever and can be positive when a person does not have the infection.
